So, the other day I was sitting down with my girlfriend trying to come up with ideas for a new beat that my friend and I were working on. We wanted it to be something creative and something that most people weren’t going to expect.
In the past, I had used pacifier clips to help accentuate the sound of our overheads and hi hats. It worked great and since then we’ve been experimenting with live recordings sound effects like this. This time around we were strongly debating using other items around the house and thought that maybe an old door could provide some insight to spawn some fresh creativity.
This actually came about accidentally which is usually how the best ideas come about. We were chilling having a conversation and accidentally knocked on the door in a pattern that had somewhat of a groove. After hearing this idea we rushed to our recorder and laid it down. It wasn’t very long until we had a pattern running with some melodies that we were very happy with.
We ended up turning this concept into a full-fledged beat and sending it off to a few artists. It is definitely a more unconventional style of infer mental that we have ever produced to this day. As a result we have noticed a lot of interest and are really considering making more music with this kind of sound.
If you or anyone else is wondering about different techniques that you can use to create an interesting beat such as using a pacifier clip, hair pin, a magnet or anything that can be found around the house. Just try thinking outside the box, you’ll be surprised with what you come up with.
